What is comfort care in a nursing home?
‘Comfort care’ is a phrase that is sometimes used when referring to palliative care, or end-of-life care. Comfort care in a nursing home involves helping a resident to be as comfortable as possible in their final days, whilst also extending support to their loved ones, enabling them to make the most of precious time.
Comfort care is not a treatment for medical conditions, but is delivered by qualified nurses who aim to relieve an individual’s symptoms as far as is possible, when it is most needed.
A number of Somerset Care’s nursing care homes have been awarded Platinum status in the Gold Standards Framework for the support they provide to people nearing the end of their life. The award is presented to care homes who work alongside the individual and their loved ones to offer high-quality, reliable and consistent nursing care at a time when it is most needed.
We are passionate about delivering professional nursing care and support to all of our residents, especially those in need of comfort care in their final days.
