Home CareFunding

How much does home care cost and who pays for it?

As home care services are tailored to your individual needs, so are the costs associated with them – there is no ‘one size fits all’. Key factors for determining the cost of your home care will include the frequency and length of your home care visits, the level of expert care that you require, and the type of tasks that you need support within your own home.

How much does home care cost?

All home care services are bespoke to your requirements, so it is difficult to generalise how much in-home care costs.

Whether you are looking to support a loved one with home care services for the elderly, or are seeking home care for yourself, the best place to start is by contacting your chosen home care provider. They will arrange a care assessment to discuss your requirements and agree to the package of home care services which will best support you to live the life you choose at home. From this, they will be able to advise how much your home care will cost.

Who pays for home care?

Depending upon your financial circumstances, your Local Authority may part or fully fund your home care. Local Authority funding for home care is means tested according to the total value of your savings and assets, which is assessed against criteria set by the government. If you do not qualify for fully-funded home care from your Local Authority, you may be ‘top-up’ or fully cover the cost of your care.

There are also specific funds which you can apply to for financial support with your home care, if you live with specific long-term or complex medical conditions, or need urgent end-of-life care. These funds are not means-tested, and you may be eligible for financial support even if you do not qualify for Local Authority funding for home care services.
