“You have rebuilt my sister in two weeks’ respite care”
The opportunity to rest and be supported by others can be life-changing.
That’s certainly the experience of Linda, who booked a two-week respite stay at Wyndham House in Minehead, to take a much-needed step back from being her husband’s carer, whilst also managing her own health issues.
Caring for the family carer
Linda’s sister, Sharon, explains what this break meant to her:
“My sister is going through a really tough time at the moment, with her husband terminally ill with cancer, and the onset of dementia.
“In the two weeks my sister was in the care of Wyndham House, I could see the change in her; uplifted, happy and like a new woman under the circumstances.”

“My sister has had several strokes and sometimes finds it hard to find the right words to communicate. It takes patience and care to listen to her.
“All the staff at Wyndham House have made her feel heard, listened to, cared for and so welcome.
“So much so that [Linda] is calling Wyndham House her second home, and wishes to return one day. My sister has made some lovely friends too with people that are staying in the care home, this too has helped boost her spirits.
“I personally would like to thank all of you for making my sisters two week stay amazing! The staff were amazing, the food was fabulous! The care has been exemplary!”
Rebuilding lives through respite care
“I’ve watched my sister arrive at Wyndham House nervous, sad, lost, absolutely exhausted and worrying about her husband and her future. She is leaving, confident, happy, restored and like a new woman.”
“I just want to thank everyone that has made this possible: cleaners, caregivers, hairdressers, kitchen staff, activities staff and management, you all are a piece of the puzzle that has made this possible. I value you all as the fabulous team that you are.
“You have rebuilt my sister in two weeks respite care! Thank you all so much.”

Life-changing support
Darianna Gould, the new Care Home Manager at Wyndham House, describes what it is like to be part of the team delivering transformative care and support for people like Linda:
“Drawing on over two decades of experience in care, including 11 years spent leading successful care home teams, I can spot what elevates care from good to great, and we have that here at Wyndham House. This starts with a highly-qualified and dedicated team, and builds on that by really listening to those we support, and understanding exactly what it is that they need to live the life they choose. This will be different from person-to-person, and we pride ourselves on delivering care which is truly person-centred and tailored to every individual’s unique requirements.
“It was wonderful to see the positive transformation in Linda’s wellbeing during her respite stay with us. Like many people who come to us for short-term care, she had been struggling to keep a lot of plates spinning; attempting to manage her own health issues whilst also being her husband’s primary carer. We were glad to support Linda to be able to switch off from her assumed caring responsibilities for a while, and look after her needs instead.
“We were incredibly touched to read Sharon’s heartfelt testimonial of the difference this made to her sister, and look forward to providing more life-changing support for individuals and their families.”
