Supporting community foodbanks to make a festive difference
Care homes and office bases across the not-for-profit Somerset Care Group have been spreading a little Christmas joy by collecting donations for their local foodbanks.
With the support of their local communities, colleagues and residents have collected, wrapped and donated toys, treats and food parcels to support families facing hard times this festive season. And there are still more donations to come!
Sweets and toys from Stockmoor Lodge
At Stockmoor Lodge nursing and residential care home in Bridgwater, residents have wrapped toys and sweets to gift to local children via the Bridgwater Foodbank.
Thanks to generous donations from Sunshine Pre-School in Puriton, as well as Stockmoor Lodge colleagues and visitors, residents had a lot of wrapping to do!
Store cupboard essentials from Moorhaven
At Moorhaven respite and residential care home in Taunton, resident Janet has led the drive to collect and donate some much-needed store cupboard items which were on Taunton Foodbank’s Christmas wishlist.
Supported by Moorhaven team member, Alice, Janet was thrilled to visit the foodbank in person to deliver the home’s valued contribution.
Food parcels from Frith House
Residents at Frith House dementia, respite and residential care home in Burnham-on-Sea collect food donations throughout the year for the Highbridge Area Foodbank, and are gearing themselves up for another collection before Christmas!
Residents love the connection that they have with their local community foodbank, and especially enjoy their regular visits from the foodbank volunteers when they can hear how their donations are making a difference.
Colleagues at Somerset Care Group’s offices on Blackbrook Park in Taunton are also hosting a box for Quantock Foodbank, and are busy gathering donations of food and toiletries to gift to struggling families before Christmas.
Making a difference
Kerry Stevens, Somerset Care’s Head of Residential and Nursing Services, says:
“One of Somerset Care Group’s core values is Making A Difference, and there is no better time to support the communities we live and work in, than in the busy run up to Christmas.
“We know that this time of year can be especially difficult for families who are already struggling, prompting more people to turn to foodbanks for their daily essentials.
“I hope that the generosity and community spirit shown by our colleagues and residents will help to ease the burden for families in crisis this Christmastime, making their festive season a little easier, and a little brighter.”
