Double award nominations spark care home joy

Two Somerset Care residential care settings are celebrating after being shortlisted for regional care awards.

The team at Fletcher House in Wells, and the Registered Manager of Field House in Shepton Mallet, have been announced as finalists for two separate regional awards.

Care Home Registered Manager regional finalist – Karen Reeves, Field House

Karen Reeves, Registered Manager of Field House day care, respite and residential care home in Shepton Mallet, has been shortlisted for the Care Home Registered Manager category at the South West finals of the Great British Care Awards.

This award recognises ‘an outstanding Care Home Registered Manager who demonstrates expertise, leadership, and a clear vision for developing high-quality, person-centred care’.

Karen shares her response to being announced as a regional finalist:

“I am surprised and delighted to be shortlisted for the South West Care Home Registered Manager award at the Great British Care Awards.

“I began my career in care with Somerset Care as a Care Assistant in 1991, and worked through different roles before progressing to become a Registered Manager in 2011. I have had the privilege of working with and leading amazing teams during that time, through the ever-changing and sometimes challenging world of social care.

“I imagine that whoever nominated me will know that the limelight is not my natural habitat, but I am so proud that this award nomination will provide the opportunity for me to shine a light on the incredible work of my team at Field House, and across the wider residential care sector.”

The South West winner of the Care Home Registered Manager award category will be announced at the regional Great British Care Awards ceremony on 13th November, after which the regional winner will go through to judging for the national award.

South West Care Home of the Year finalist – Fletcher House

Meanwhile, colleagues at Fletcher House respite, residential and dementia care home in Wells have been shortlisted for the ‘Care Home of the Year’ category at the South West Care Awards.

This award celebrates ‘an outstanding care home that consistently delivers exceptional care, demonstrates innovation in practice, and creates a nurturing environment for both residents and staff’.

Independently-verified carehome.co.uk customer reviews for Fletcher House echo this criteria, describing the home as being ‘well-run’ and ‘friendly’, with a ‘professional, caring and attentive’ team who ‘create a safe and stable environment’.

Annie Northover, Registered Manager at Fletcher House, explains what the nomination means to the team:

“On behalf of the whole Fletcher House team, I would like to express my thanks to those who have nominated our care home for this award. It is an honour to be shortlisted, but what means even more to us is that people’s experiences of Fletcher House inspired those nominations.

“Being shortlisted for this award is a reflection of the work of the incredible team that I am proud to lead, and the high-quality care that we strive to deliver for our residents.”

The winner of the Care Home of the Year will be announced at the South West Care Awards ceremony on 24th October.
