Donations provide technological boost for residents living with dementia
Residents at Burnworthy House care home in South Petherton are benefitting from the latest interactive technology, thanks to generous community donations.
When the care home set itself an ambitious £6,000 fundraising target to enable the purchase of a Tiny Tablet interactive table to support residents living with dementia, they had no idea that two particularly generous donations would provide them with two-thirds of the money they needed, with the remainder met through fundraising events which were well-supported by the local community.
A lasting legacy for a much-loved resident
£2,000 was donated in memory of the late Carol Hammond, a much-loved former resident of Burnworthy House.
Carol’s children, Louise, Amy, Eve and Brian, wanted to create a lasting legacy in their Mum’s name, which would provide enjoyment and fulfilment to residents and friends in the place she called home.
Strengthening community ties
A further £2,000 was generously gifted by Denholm Industrial Services Ltd. Abigail Vaganova, Marketing Manager for the company, said:
“We are excited to announce that Denholm Industrial Services has donated £2,000 to our local care home, Burnworthy House in South Petherton, to help fund an interactive Tiny Tablet for residents to use.
“Guided by our core values of integrity, fairness, and respect, we are dedicated to supporting initiatives that strengthen our community. This donation demonstrates our commitment to creating a positive impact and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, has access to essential resources.”
Stimulating activities for those living with dementia
The portable, touch-screen tablet provides an outlet for sensory activities which are especially beneficial to those living with advanced dementia. Residents can enjoy playing games, completing brain puzzles, and watching programmes on the large screen, which can be easily moved around the home and taken into resident’s rooms as needed.
Alison Tiltman, Manager at Burnworthy House, explains what the purchase means to residents at the home:
“Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts to enable us to purchase the Tiny Tablet interactive table for our residents. Your donations are making such a difference to the lives of our residents at Burnworthy House.
“We would like to extend our particular heartfelt thanks to the family of our dear late resident, Carol Hammond, for their generous donation in her memory, and to Denholm Industrial Services for their substantial contribution. We also cannot forget our wonderful local community, who supported our fundraising events and activities to help us reach our £6,000 target. We are humbled and overwhelmed by your support and generosity.
A benefit to health and wellbeing
“The interactive tablet has not only brought fun and giggles to our residents, but it has proven to be a real asset to those living with dementia. Providing both mental stimulation and interactive entertainment, it has been great to see the positive impact that the tablet is having on the emotional health and wellbeing of our residents.
“We look forward to discovering even more ways in which we can incorporate this brilliant piece of technology into our activities programme and daily routine at Burnworthy House.”
