Somerset Care has provided specialist care for our residents living with a dementia for many years. It is important for us that everyone becomes part of the family, and it feels like you are simply moving home and will make new friends. We recognise the difficulty this can create for those with dementia – and their loved ones.
For the last 20 years we have worked with university partners in Exeter and Bradford to ensure we are part of the latest research, we use the evaluation of that research to influence the care and support we provide.
We are extremely proud of our ‘Petals’ dementia teams who are all trained to the highest standards and constantly strive to ensure our services are person led – listening to our customers and families on an individual basis to meet their needs. It is essential for our teams to understand where someone is on their dementia journey – no two people are the same – we will support our residents to maintain life skills which include both therapeutic and vocational tasks. Reminiscence and memory boxes are used in our Petals care as a way of stimulating memories and discussion.
We also use a tool known as dementia care mapping to check the quality of the support and care being provided.
We have 27 care homes in Somerset and on the Isle of Wight. Find your local care home on our interactive map, or on our care home section.
