Popham Court

Popham Court stands in spacious gardens, just a short walk from the town centre and the varied shopping and leisure amenities of Wellington, offering the highest standards of both nursing and residential care, either for the longer term or respite breaks.

Care and support is provided in separate nursing and residential facilities on the same site, meaning that as a resident’s care needs become more complex they can remain in the same area rather than having to move away.

Residential care is provided at The Court, a charming grade 2 listed building with a rich history. Originally a country mansion and residence of the Fox family, it was taken over as a residential home by Somerset County Council in the 1950s. At the same time, the Fox family donated the surrounding land to the Council and this was used to create the school and park, views of which can be enjoyed throughout the home. The Court benefits from accessible and award-winning gardens to the rear of the home, with pleasant walks and seating areas for residents to enjoy the garden and views.

Popham House was built by the Council within the grounds of The Court in 1954. It was originally a home for the blind, but is now a nursing home providing 24-hour care.

Accommodation

We aim to create an attractive and comfortable environment. All of the bedrooms have been refurbished to a high standard, and residents are encouraged to personalise their room. All rooms are single, however, we may be able to offer shared room accommodation, if required. Some rooms have en-suite facilities, whilst all have a nurse call system, vanity unit and access to the lift. The residential and nursing homes have separate, well-appointed dining rooms and communal areas with views of the garden. The Court has retained some of its original features, such as the attractive dining room fireplace.

Activities

Popham Court has an activities co-ordinator who organises a variety of activities for residents to take part in. These range from arts and crafts, to music and our popular gardening club.

Other facilities

We have IT facilities available for all to use including Wi-Fi and Skype, which can be used to maintain contact with friends and relatives that may not live locally.

Catering

Popham Court benefits from their own kitchen and catering staff, with meals prepared daily on-site, to suit a wide range of dietary requirements.

Staff

A hardworking and conscientious team of qualified care and housekeeping staff provide 24-hour care. All Somerset Care staff receive full induction and ongoing training to ensure that we provide the best possible service. Many of our staff hold NVQ (QCF) qualifications, and our commitment to training and investment in our staff has led to us being awarded the prestigious Investor in People (IIP) award.

Being a member of the Somerset Care Group means that we can offer staff trained to the highest standards of professional service and the other benefits that are available to a large organisation whilst at the same time being local to the community we serve.

Gold Standards Framework Award

Popham Court has been awarded Beacon status in the Gold Standards Framework for their support given to people nearing end of life. The award is presented to care homes that they can identify the people who need this special care at this time of their life, assessing what they need and planning their care and support in conjunction with them, their families and carers. When you or someone you love are nearing the end of your life you deserve the best possible standard of care, which means high quality, reliable and consistent support.
