We are delighted to announce the appointment of Sarah Hicks as Director of Care Operations.
Following a highly competitive national search and selection process, Sarah was offered the position from over 140 candidates. Sarah has more than 20 years’ experience of operational and commercial leadership across a broad range of sectors, including healthcare, leisure, tourism and textile manufacturing. Sarah has operated at Board level as an Executive Director and has also been a Non-Executive Director on our Somerset Care Board since October 2016.
In her career to date, Sarah has amassed a wealth of skills and experience in the operational and commercial management of remote, multi-location services; the challenges of recruitment, training, development and retention of initially unskilled staff; the importance of strong focus on customer wants and needs in designing services; and of delivery of high quality lifestyle experiences to promote health and wellbeing.
For the last 5 years, Sarah has worked at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton as an Associate Director with responsibility for the private hospital and other commercial services, giving her a detailed understanding of operations within the NHS. This, together with knowledge from her role on the Board, makes Sarah ideally placed to promote further collaboration at the interface between health and care.
Prior to this, in her role as Director of Operations, Sarah was instrumental in turning around Fox Bros & Co Ltd, a historic textile manufacturing company in Somerset.
Sarah has also worked as a Regional Advisor for Business Link, offering advice and guidance on leadership, management and healthcare, and facilitating a number of training, leadership and business development grants for Public and Private Sector organisations.
From 1991 to 2007, Sarah played a key role in growing the multi-million pound hospitality business, Weststar Holidays. Working alongside CEO, Deborah Meaden, star of BBC’s Dragon’s Den, Sarah was responsible for directing operations and was a key member of the management buy-out team and successful transition through two periods of due diligence.

The passion of staff for their mission to enhance quality of life and promote independence of older and disabled people is humbling. I can see many opportunities to support our operational staff to grow and develop both themselves and the business and I’m excited by the possibilities to make a positive difference to our customers, staff and the business as a whole.”
