We employ many staff trained outside the UK, although they must be resident in the UK.
Somerset Care works closely with Universities throughout Europe for students studying in Health and Social Care. Some of our students take a one-year break from their course and join us to get hands-on experience. Others are Graduates and come to work with us for a number of years.
Joanna Gorecka
Joanna works as a Care Assistant at one of our care homes. Originally from Poland, Joanna travelled in the United States and throughout Europe before settling in the UK in February 2007.
Joanna says, "Being a Care Assistant for Somerset Care requires a lot of hard work and commitment, but I have made great friendships with both colleagues and residents. There are also lots of opportunities to progress with continual training and a good management team."
Daniel Medvecky
Daniel worked as a Care Assistant at one of our care homes in Somerset. He became such a key member of the team that he was given a Somerset Care Award in 2006 as 'Best Carer', an award for which he was nominated by his colleagues and residents at the home. He has now returned home, but is very positive about his time working with us and remains in contact.
