Services for clients with learning disabilities
The Somerset Care Group has been providing support to adults with learning disabilities for many years. Our services are developing in accord with Central Government policies, and especially the Valuing People ethos.
We support clients across the continuum of ability, and our services include person centred care and support services either at home, in the community or in a supported living environment.
Each client has their own person centred support plan, which is developed in conjunction with the service user, his or her family and advocates. These are regularly reviewed and updated and include information about preferred activities.
We actively support our staff to move from traditional caring roles into supporting and enabling clients to live more independently. Professional training includes NVQs and Learning Disability Qualifications.
We are one of Somerset County Council’s strategic partners and are pleased to work with them in developing services for this client group. During 2008 Somerset Care at Home worked closely with the Council on a new development for adults with complex learning disabilities, which is the largest scheme of its kind in the county. The first tenants moved in during November 2008. We also provide support to a supported living scheme for clients with low-level learning disabilities in Bridgwater.
Our subsidiary Company Isle Care provides a range of services for people with learning disabilities on the Isle of Wight and is working in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council and PCT to remodel service provision. In Southampton we provide support to people living in a number of small group living schemes and we have also been appointed as approved providers for the provision of supported living services in Dorset, Bournemouth and West Sussex.
