New Manager appointed at Sydenham House residential home

Becki BidgoodThe Somerset Care Group has appointed a new Manager at Sydenham House residential home in Bridgwater.

Becki Bidgood has been appointed to the position from her current role as Deputy Manager at Oak Trees, also part of the Somerset Care Group. Becki has been a Deputy Manager for the past three years and replaces Jeanette Martin, who has been appointed to the role of Operations Manager.

Alyson Martin, Chief Executive designate, said, “Becki’s promotion is well deserved and follows Somerset Care’s policy to promote within wherever possible. Sydenham House is the second home in the Group to be managed by a member of the Bidgood family, as her mother Kay manages Greenhill House in Cheddar.”

New Manager appointed at Calway House

Katrina TantThe Somerset Care Group has appointed a new Nurse Manager at Calway House in Taunton.

Katrina Tant has been appointed to the position from her current role as a Deputy Nurse Manager at the home. Katrina has worked for the organisation for five years and replaces Nurse Manager Verity Underhill, who has been promoted to the role of Operations Manager for the Somerset Care Group.

Alyson Martin, Chief Executive designate, said, “Katrina’s promotion is well deserved. I am sure that Calway House, a highly popular home, will continue to flourish under her leadership.”

Grovelands care home celebrates success at the 2011 National Care Awards

Staff from Grovelands Care HomeSomerset Care is pleased to announce that staff from Grovelands care home in Yeovil have enjoyed double success at this year’s National Care Awards. Care Assistant Joanne Reynolds was presented with the ‘Care Newcomer 2011′ awards and the staff team were presented with the ‘Care Team 2011′ award.

The awards which took place at a gala dinner held at the Hilton London Metropole on Friday 25th November, are a celebration of excellence across the care sector.

Grovelands is a 66 bed residential home with a specialist dementia unit, situated in Yeovil. The home has over 80 staff and each member of the team works exceptionally hard to ensure that the people they care for receive the highest standard of care and support.

Joanne, winner of the ‘Care Newcomer 2011′ award joined Grovelands as an apprentice in September 2010, and was promoted in January 2011 to Care Assistant. She was also successful earlier this year at the Somerset Care Group’s in-house awards ceremony.

Marion Osborn, Operations Manager for Grovelands said, “I’m so proud to be Operations Manager for Grovelands. All of the staff work so hard to ensure that each resident is treated with respect and dignity. The evening was a great success for Somerset Care, and one of the judges was so impressed that they have booked a day out to visit Grovelands next week!”

Somerset Care takes over Leycroft Care Centre in Taunton

Somerset Care is pleased to announce that it has taken over the former Southern Cross home Leycroft Care Centre in Taunton. After a period of uncertainty for the staff, residents and families at the home, its future is now secure with new management and a new name – Lavender Court.

The formal transfer took place yesterday and the existing staff will be transferring to Somerset Care’s employment. Somerset Care’s name is well known in Taunton as it has two care homes (Calway House and Moorhaven), a community care base, a physical disabilities unit (Halcon House), and its central office operation in town. These existing facilities have a strong reputation for delivering high quality services, and the company aims to build the reputation of Lavender Court to the same level.

Alyson Martin, Somerset Care’s Director of Care Services and newly-appointed Chief Executive, said, “We are delighted to welcome the staff, residents and families of Lavender Court to the Somerset Care Group. The home has endured a long period of uncertainty, but will now have a new beginning under a new name. The seamless transfer for residents and families is only possible with the help of the existing staff at home and we thank them for their continued support and dedication.”

Great South West Care Award Success

Awards present by Keith ChegwinThe Somerset Care Group is delighted to announce the success of three staff members at the recent Great South West Care Awards. Finalists were invited to a gala dinner held in Bristol where they were presented with their awards by Keith Chegwin. Our winners were, Russell Summersgill from Somerset Care at Home Minehead who won the ‘Putting People First Award’, Kelly Chilcott from Somerset Care at Home Minehead who won the ‘Best Newcomer Award’ and Nicola Whitworth from Acacia Training & Development who won the ‘Care Trainer Award’.

Congratulations to all three winners and to those who were finalists.
