The Somerset Care Group has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive.
After a rigorous recruitment process, involving candidates from across the country, the Board of the Somerset Care Group were delighted to invite Alyson Martin to become the company’s new Chief Executive.
Alyson has spent her entire career working in social care, firstly joining Somerset County Council in 1984 as a Care Home Manager. In 1991 Alyson became Director of Somerset Care Ltd when the company was formed, and in 2000 she assumed the role of Director of Care Services for the Somerset Care Group. Alyson is widely known and respected throughout the care industry, and has been Chair of the Registered Care Providers Association for four years where she has made many influential contributions to national and regional organisations. Alyson succeeds Andrew Larpent OBE, who will be taking up the position of Chief Executive for Southern Cross Care in Adelaide, South Australia. Alyson will assume the position of Chief Executive from 1st January 2012.
Speaking about her new appointment, Alyson said, “I am delighted to take up the position of Chief Executive for the Somerset Care Group. It has been a privilege to have been part of the company and see it grow and build in strength and expertise over the last twenty years. I now look forward to leading the company and will endeavour to ensure my time as Chief Executive mirrors the high standards of my predecessor.”
Barrie Dale, Chairman of the Somerset Care Group, added, “On behalf of the Board and staff of Somerset Care I would like to congratulate Alyson on her new position. This is an exciting time for the Group as we say an emotional goodbye and thank you to Andrew, for all of the sterling work he has done in helping to place the company at the forefront of excellence in social care and training. We can now look forward to Alyson spearheading our further development and progress in what would be the third decade of Somerset Care.”

Langham Court recently donated a further £600 to the RNLI Bembridge Appeal, which has been set up to raise funds for the new lifeboat station and lifeboat. Langham Court is an exclusive close care development based in the grounds of Inver House residential home in Bembridge. The apartments get their name from the Langham lifeboat, which was in service on the Island between 1922 and 1939. On the apartments completion the Somerset Care Group pledged to donate £200 to the RNLI Bembridge Lifeboat Appeal for every apartment sold.
